Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai First Impressions

The only anime this season I can never recall the name.

Takeo Takahashi is an interesting director to say the least. Even though he has garnered critical acclaim for his work on Spice and Wolf, his forte has always been in ecchi anime. Looking at his body of work, S&W sticks out like a sore thumb amongst titles like Smash Hit and Cosprayers. Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai doesn’t have the lofty ambitions of Takahashi’s masterwork. Instead it aims to deliver a few good laughs and a panty shot or two.

Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai knows what its strengths are. It’s off the walls story is an excuse for perverse hijinks and erotic gags. There is little to no explanation for much of its mythos but with an anime like this it’s hard to care. It never takes itself seriously and expects its viewers to follow suit. I always seemed to be laughing throughout the episode which uses every cheap trick in the book to provoke a reaction.

Everything that is bad about this anime is done on purpose. The poor writing and dialogue, the two dimensional cast, and the cheap CG effects elevate the hilarity of H ga Dekinai.

How long can it last? Eventually this show will have to give us some substance to chew on to last the course of the season. The series has to mature moving forward without losing its quirk or personality.

Consistency and creativity will be a constant challenge.  I can see some of these running gags getting tiresome. If the jokes get stale, H ga Dekinai won’t have any legs to run on.

Tsundere’s are such teases and the leading lady is no different.
