The Chrome Disaster arc is finally over. Maybe this time around we can have a villain that doesn’t go down in a single episode? Sure he had some appeal as any steroid inflated, chrome plated, Spiderman wannabe would but all the havoc he wreaked only precipitated into the loss of some Burst Points for a handful of extras. Talk about a low self-esteem recurring super baddie.
I’m glad Chiyu is actually getting involved in the story. She is by far the most interesting character in the series because of how grounded she is. “Isn’t it only just a game?” You would think her words would sink in for the rest of cast as they struggle to explain to her why it isn’t just a ‘game’.
It’s tiresome to have to deal with Haru and Kuroyukihime’s anxieties in regards to their relationship week in and week out. They constantly are trying to reinforce how they will never betray one another. Princess Black Snow goes as far as declaring Haru would be her “thing forever”. Haru’s sexual insecurities are getting irritating. He’s dating the hottest girl in school and he displaces his not so PG thoughts of her with fantasies of being prepared a feast. Now I understand he is of a heavier persuasion, but he is a pubescent boy. Most teenagers I have known would take sex over a sandwich any day.
Even after thirteen episodes the main characters show little to no growth. I understand the theme of Accel World is coming to terms with yourself and actualizing your true potential, but such journeys aren’t traversed in leaps and bounds but taking small meaningful steps. Haru and Co. are now halfway through their adventure yet they continue to relearn the same lessons. This series is definitely stagnating and I hope the introduction of the new villain shakes things up.
