The plot is thicker than Lisara’s red bush.
Wow. These last two episodes seem to have actual substance! And it’s not just that the show is growing on me. As expected, it turns out that Mei isn’t the Imoutroll, but this has to be the closest Shougo has come to finding out who she is thusfar. We get a brief glimpse of her from Mei’s flashback, but this was from a while ago so it’s entirely possible that her appearance may have changed since then. Or perhaps mysterious flashback-chan isn’t even Shougo’s imouto? I can see it now; the punchline is that there is no real imouto and Shougo had his panties in a bunch over nothing. Honestly though, I don’t think the show would troll us that badly, so it’s probably safe to assume that mysterious flashback-chan is in fact a young Imoutroll.
With that out of the way, let’s take a look at what we’re left with in episode seven. We have random kuro-serafuku-chan and speaker-chan. I am fairly certain that kuro-serafuku-chan is just a red herring since Imoutroll is supposed to be attending the same school. If she suddenly transfers, I will throw something out the window. What about speaker-chan then? I don’t know about you, but from the two scenes we have of her, she looks an awful lot like Rinka. Rinka did pick up that DNA kit in the hallway, so she would be in a position to know about Shougo’s attempts to rule out Imoutroll candidates once and for all. The thing is, all this seems too convenient. With five episodes left, I can’t see the reveal happening any time soon.
And what about the DNA test? Konoe went along with it easily enough. Does this relieve her of all suspicions? Before jumping the gun, let’s not forget about the situation with Mei. Knowing that one of them is conspiring with Imoutroll, we have to ask ourselves if we can really trust any of the girls. What if they all know who the real Imoutroll is and are working with her to mindfuck (or just fuck) Shougo? Perhaps Konoe only went along with the test because she knew Miyabi would make a scene and Rinka would mop up by distracting Shougo with the timely arrival of the board. Yes, that’s got to it! It’s all one big conspiracy! In all seriousness though, it would then make more sense to rule out known conspirators as candidates. We already have one; Mei.
The show has taken a few steps in the right direction, but it’s still less than satisfying. The developments are a little forced and the attempts at creating drama are far too obvious and excessive. I’ve probably mentioned these points before, but they’re still valid.
