Continuing right where we left off, Kaoruko decides to pay Akito a visit to check up on his alleged attraction to his sister. After being lead on by the other haremettes, she finally gets to meet Akiko, and gets more than she bargains for. Discovering that Akiko is madly in love with Akito pushes her over the edge, with hilarious results. Seeing an opportunity, the haremettes gang up with her and concoct a plan to separate the suspiciously close siblings. Well, they’re only getting him to move to his own room, but it’s a start. Akiko’s attempts to prevent the move were pretty hilarious to watch. Her progression from empty threats to pitiful begging to an outright breakdown was perhaps one of the best moments of the episode. I know I’ve said this before, but I really have to give props to Akiko’s VA. She’s just doing a tremendous job on her first role, and I hope to hear more of her in the future.
Akiko being Akiko though, she doesn’t stay depressed for long. I’m amazed at how much she can twist things in her mind to convince herself that Akito wants her as badly as she wants him. This, and her way of taking “requests” up a notch when “compromising” are some of the quirks that make her so entertaining to watch. Akito dropping by to see how she was coping without him was a rather nice moment, except it probably only further reinforced her delusions. Luckily, Akiko does have an unfortunate habit of “cockblocking” herself quite a bit. If she just hadn’t started chuckling in anticipation, I’m certain that she could have gotten away with a bit of head-patting from her beloved brother. In any case, it’s clear that Akito cares about her a great deal, and right now the extent of his feelings are a little ambiguous. He denies any romantic attraction himself, but the rest of the harem clearly see Akiko as an obstacle.
And just when we thought Akito’s harem couldn’t grow any bigger, who decides to show up but his supposed fiancee. Akito lived with her family before moving to live with Akiko, but the validity of her claim remains to be seen. It could just turn out that she’s some sort of childhood friend like Gin. We all know how childhood friends like to “propose” to each other when they’re little kids in anime. Seeing as OniAi has been using such cliched scenarios quite liberally, I would say that this could very well be the case. Whatever it turns out to be, this will certainly add an interesting wrinkle to Akiko’s attempts to monopolize her brother. Arisa is allegedly a genius of sorts, so despite her disadvantage in certain “physical factors”, I’m sure she has a few tricks up her sleeve (short of a proper engagement) to keep Akito to herself.
We’ll have to wait until next episode to see how Arisa interacts with Akiko and the harem.
