Hentai Ouji To Warawanai Neko Weekly Update – Episode 3

This episode is divided into two parts – the ending of the Azuki Azusa arc and the beginning of  Tsukiko arc. Both are good and cute in their own way.

TheGoodYokodera Youto finally resolves the issue between him and Azuki Azusa and manages to get his facade back from her. At first, Azusa doesn’t want to hear him out because she thinks that, together with Tsukiko, he plotted their date so that she’ll meet her former classmates. The problem with her is that, she easily misunderstands things and jumps to conclusions right away.

When Youto confronts the girls who teased Azuki in the arcade, he learns that no one bullied her, they just wanted to tease her a bit to see her reactions. Er- well, you can call it bullying. Anyway, back in her old school, during their class trip she went to Hokkaido alone thinking that that was their destination. However, the class went to Okinawa. She frequently skipped her classes, so the girls thought that if  they lied to her, knowing that she wanted to go to Hokkaido, she could be tricked into going on the class trip. They were shocked that she flew there alone, waiting for them. Next thing they knew, she transferred schools. Yeah, it really was the girls’ fault for not telling her directly about it. However, their intentions were not malicious. But becuase of this she became distrustful of others.

Youto kidnaps Azusa from her apartment so that they can talk. I just like to note that her mother did NOTHING to stop him and she even called a taxi for them to escape. What a supportive mother. He manages to convince her to give up her facade and act naturally. In that way, people will like her more, including him. That causes a little misunderstanding in Azusa’s part but was eventually cleared when Youto strongly turns her down in terms of romance. Really? He’s so honest that he even goes as far as saying she doesn’t make his heart go “doki-doki”. However, Azusa won’t give up easily, right? They went to the stone statue and he explained everything about it. I’m surprised that she accepted and believed everything so readily. Well, at least it ended well.

The second half shows that Tsukiko and Youto met in the past. Back then, Tsukiko wore a mask to conceal her emotions from the children in kindergarten. She told Youto about her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher but it’s difficult for her because she gets angry and cries easily. They met twice and during their last conversation, she told him that she will be studying at his school and that he should remember her. The use of flashback in this part was done pretty well without disrupting the smooth flow of the story. We’ll get to know more about her next episode.

For me, some scenes feel a little bit off and forced. Like when Youto lists down all of Azusa’s characteristics as if he’d known her for years. I mean, they just knew each other for a short period of time and the way he told her that felt so cheesy.

Also, let’s go back to episode 1, Tsukiko freaked out when she saw Youto at the stone statue. But it was revealed that she had met him in the past. Her actions back then are a little inconsistent because she should’ve been familiar with his face. They met months ago if I’m not mistaken. She considers him a precious friend so it would be a little bit impossible to forget him completely. I understand Youto, because when he met her, she wore a mask.

Anyway, that’s just a little bit nitpicking on my part.

When Youto says that he knew that Azusa tosses and turns in her sleep is just plain ugly. I mean, really? That’s so C-R-E-E-P-Y.

A pretty decent episode although it could’ve been written better. Hopefully, we’ll get to know about Tsukiko’s issues with her sister next week and I’m excited to see her in action again.

  1. I felt like there was a little bit of inconsistency with Tsukiko’s character at first, considering she’d met him in the past already, but at the same time it may be slightly plausible, as…
    a) The first time they met, Tsukiko was wearing a mask, and it was dark out. Not saying she wouldn’t be able to see anything, but generally masks limit your vision, and it just makes it more difficult as it was rather dark outside as well.
    b) The second time they met, it was also dark out. Plus Youto accidentally jumped her so she panicked.
    c) Again, the second time they met, she probably said nothing due to the fact that she herself had told Youto on the first time they met, that Youto had to remember and come look for her himself.
This is just what I think, however.

    • I have also considered what you said above. The possibility that her vision was limited by the mask and her surroundings. However, she said it herself that Youto is the first friend she truly loved (well not directly but through her picture slideshow). She should at least remember his face and voice given that only months have passed since they met. Correct me if I’m wrong but what this episode showed us is that she completely forgot Youto. She only remembered him after dreaming of their first encounter.

      Anyway, thanks for commenting! 🙂

      • I think that maybe she had that dream for plot’s convenience so that we have some way of knowing that they had met before (although they could have done it in another way), because I feel that her reaction of ‘just remembering’ about Youto was too weak, even with the facade (she can at least produce an “Oh…!” or an “I remember now!”, not that excitedly though).

But I do kind of agree with you, because in the first episode, despite the darkness and all, I feel like her reaction didn’t show that she recognized him, so I’m a little confused now. XD And then after that, she kept talking about how she’d known him from a long time before (In Azusa’s arc, she kept talking about how she’s known him for a while now), so I think that the recognition slowly set in for her, or she really did keep it a secret that night. Not entirely sure, though, going to have to wait a while, since the manga hasn’t even covered the entire ‘dream’ aspect of Tsukiko’s arc yet.

        Also, no problem. ^^

        • “I think that maybe she had that dream for plot’s convenience so that we have some way of knowing that they had met before (although they could have done it in another way),”

I agree. They should have done it in a better way. Now I’m a little bit confused. If she really did keep it a secret from him that night, I’ll give her two thumbs up because one can’t tell that she knew him before. Better wait for another week 🙂

  2. Knowing who Youto was that doesn’t mean Tsukiko would trust him fully. Youto was carrying around that creepy dakimakura. Even if she hadn’t been spooked by him, she had plenty of reason to excuse herself quickly.

    • I get your point. But I’m just confused with her dream and her reaction “oh it’s him”. It seems like she just remembered him at that moment. Er- maybe I’m missing something.

  3. Pranks usually go far in Japan. Stories like Azusa’s aren’t really surprising. But like you said, it doesn’t necessarily constitute to bullying, so the girls are cleared, as much as I don’t want to admit it. It’s quite interesting that the show has this unusual way to make the words come out as unintentional as they can be, which explains the girls’ prank and the repeated misunderstandings on Youto and Azusa’s part. The cat statue is one thing, but the wording? Can’t really explain that.
